Newcastle Airshow 2012
The first in the new airshow tour in KZN, Newcastle proved to be a great airshow. We have come to expect big things from Newcastle and Johan Pieters and his team did not disappoint. We had the SAAF again - the Gripen making two appearances and of course the Silver Falcons. Their display was the first of the new team with a new team member in slot 2 and Heybrech in slot 4. They did very well for a "new" team. The civilian contingent was made up of the Goodyear Pitts, Gabriel Pitts, Xtreme team with Nigel Hopkins giving a great display, the Mazda Zoom zoom team with Brad Bennetts and Ellis Levin showing how close flying should be done. The Zoo York team from Durban flew and showed why they are considered Durban's best. The DurbanYak's gave a spirited display in their YAK 52's. For me, the highlight was the pair of warbirds of Menno Parsons in the Mustang and Pierre Gouws in the Trojan. Pierre's flyby at the end had us go white! Good one mate but warn us next time! Another highlight was the formation of the Silver Falcons with the C47TP. Interesting! Good airshow and a good start to the KZN Winter Airtour.
